The Ukrainian web resources which appear in this portal have been designed to support linguistic and thematic needs at the levels indicated. Whenever possible, local content has been included to heighten students’ awareness of community activities. These web resources feature attractive visuals, clear audio support and interactive language components for optimum Ukrainian language learning. Several important principles of second language methodology were incorporated into the design of each web resource: Text moves from simpler to more complex with each added level. Vocabulary has been chosen to blend some familiar terms with more complex terms, in a cumulative approach to language learning. A strategic use of language repetition eases the introduction of new vocabulary at each level. Visuals add detail to each new level while reinforcing previous text. Grammatical elements reflect Saskatchewan Curriculum Guidelines. Audio support allows students to repeat and practise as often as necessary. These web resources have been prepared as a supplement to Ukrainian classroom instruction. The page references to specific curriculum guides will assist classroom teachers in incorporating the web units into their Ukrainian language programs.
