Introduction to Unit VI: Keeping In Touch By Letter and E-mail

Unit VI will focus on how friends can keep in touch through the standard practice of letter-writing and the more current practice of e-mail. You will also be introduced to the days of the week and related vocabulary.

Learning Outcomes

  1. To learn the days of the week and practice their appropriate use in sentences.
  2. To participate in activities which reinforce listening, speaking, writing and reading on the topic ‘Keeping In Touch by Letter and E-mail'.
  3. To become familiar with two new cases – the Genitive and the Locative case and their use with certain prepositions.
  4. To display an ability to decline and use two new irregular verbs in the First Group Conjugation.
  5. To use appropriate grammatical structures and phrases in relation to the topic of letter writing and e-mail.

Dialogue 6– Olenka Writes A Letter

Synopsis

Olenka tells her young brother Petryk that she is writing a letter to her friend Larissa, who lives in Edmonton. Petryk is quite surprised to learn that Olenka writes to Larissa quite frequently. He teases his sister by saying that only girls like to write so often.

Step 1: View Slides --- Listen to Audio Clips

View the PowerPoint (PPT) Slide presentation. Listen to Dialogue 6 – Оленка пише, using either the web link given, or the CD ROM provided. Click on the Audio button to hear the audio clips.

Step 2: View Slides --- Listen to Audio Clips --- Repeat

Listen to the dialogue again, and echo-read (repeat what you hear) after each audio clip. Pay particular attention to the stresses on words and the intonation pattern in the sentences.
