Introduction to Unit V:
Greeting Adults and Peers
As you review basic Ukrainian greetings and short conversational techniques, Unit V will also introduce some important Ukrainian cultural norms when addressing adults, peers, friends and acquaintances.

- To display proficiency and confidence with the Ukrainian alphabet, written script and pronunciation of terms introduced in the course.
- To participate in activities which reinforce listening, speaking, writing and reading in Ukrainian on the topic ‘Greeting Adults and Peers’.
- To practise formal/informal greetings and farewells using the Vocative Case with male and female Ukrainian names.
- To become aware of the uses of the imperative verb form in Ukrainian.
- To display a growing proficiency in the use of the structures and patterns which have been introduced in the course thus far.

Dialogue 5 – Here Come The Boys
Synopsis
Olena and her mother, Mrs. Kozak, happen to see Roman and Taras. After exchanging greetings, they have a pleasant conversation about each other’s whereabouts and plans for the day.

Follow the procedure which is outlined below.
Step 1: View Slides --- Listen to Audio Clips
View the PowerPoint (PPT) Slide presentation. Listen to Dialogue 5 – Ось хлопці, using either the web link given, or the CD ROM provided. Click on the Audio button to hear the audio clips.
Step 2: View Slides --- Listen to Audio Clips --- Repeat
Listen to the dialogue again, and echo-read (repeat what you hear) after each audio clip. Pay particular attention to the stresses on words and the intonation pattern in the sentences.
