Introduction to Unit I: Meeting and Greeting Friends
In Unit I, you will learn basic vocabulary and structures which will enable you to meet and greet friends,
introduce yourself to others and request information.

- To develop an awareness of the relationship between the 33 letters of the Ukrainian alphabet and their distinctive sounds.
- To participate in introductory activities for listening, speaking, writing and reading on the topic 'Meeting and Greeting Friends'.
- To develop basic skills in extending informal greetings, making introductions and using polite terms.
- To acquire skills in addressing individuals and/or family members in a culturally appropriate manner.
- To develop simple question and answer techniques in Ukrainian when visiting the home of a friend.

Synopsis
Roman Bilan has come to the Kozak home to visit his good friend Taras. Mr. Kozak graciously welcomes Roman into their home to visit his son. |
Dialogue 1 – PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation
Follow the procedure which is outlined below:
Step 1: View Slides --- Listen to Audio Clips
View the PPT presentation on your CD-ROM*. Listen to the dialogue by using the Audio button feature. The method is described below.

- Click on the Slide Show menu from the tool bar at the top of the page and choose View Show.
- Using the Audio button , listen carefully to the dialogue.
- Use the Forward arrow to navigate through each slide frame.
- When you have viewed the entire Dialogue, right click your mouse in order to End Show.
- In order to exit from the Dialogue, simply Close the screen using the exit box marked with an “X” in the top right-hand corner of your screen.
Step 2: View Slides --- Listen to Audio Clips --- Repeat
Listen to the dialogue again, and echo-read (repeat what you hear) after each audio clip. Pay particular attention to the stresses on words and the intonation pattern in the sentences.

This category contains a series of Writing Exercises to help you to strengthen your writing skills. You will not be evaluated on these exercises; they are provided for added practise.
