NEWCOMERS TO CANADA

The Newcomer Welcome Centre provides families with a welcoming and supportive introduction to Prairie Spirit School Division.

If you are new to Canada and not a Canadian citizen, please contact the Newcomer Welcome Centre.

Who should come to the Centre?

• All students who are not Canadian citizens
• Students and their families who are new to Prairie Spirit School Division and who do not speak English as their first language. Please allow 1 hour for your visit.

What does the Centre do?

• Introduces families to the English as an Additional Language (EAL) team
• Registers students in elementary or high school
• Arranges for an interpreter, upon request
• Introduces families to the Settlement Support Worker in Schools (SSWIS) who will help families make connections with their new community
